Whether you're aiming to land an apprenticeship or refine your professional image, a strong tattoo portfolio is essential. At Baker Tattoo Supply, we’ve spent over two decades supporting artists at every stage of their journey. This guide will help you organize, present, and showcase your work—online and offline—with confidence.

Why a Tattoo Portfolio Matters

For beginners, your portfolio is your first impression. Tattoo shop owners and mentors won’t take your word for it—they need to see what you’re capable of. A solid, well-organized art collection helps you earn that all-important apprenticeship.

For seasoned artists, your portfolio evolves into a marketing tool. Whether you're building a reputation, expanding your client base, or applying for guest spots, a curated display of your best work is key.

What to Include in Your Tattoo Portfolio

  • 50–100 of your strongest, most recent pieces
  • Drawings only for apprentices—no skin work yet
  • A range of styles: black & grey, realism, traditional, lettering, etc.
  • Trending designs that match the shop or audience you’re targeting
  • Completed works only—no sketches, no unfinished work

? Pro Tip: Quality over quantity. A smaller, polished portfolio beats a bulky, cluttered one any day.

Recommended Portfolio Format

  • Physical Portfolio: A4 hardcover binder with plastic sleeves
  • Digital Portfolio: Easy to navigate, mobile-friendly, professionally presented is fine. JUST REMEMBER NOT EVERYONE IS GREAT WITH TECHNOLOGY

You can build yours using:

  • Facebook, Instagram, TikTok
  • Your own website (WordPress, Wix, or Squarespace)
  • Link-in-bio tools like Linktree

Remember it's a contact game. The more people you contact the greater chance you have to be noticed.

Organizing Your Digital Tattoo Portfolio

  • Lead with your strongest artwork
  • Sort by style or technique
  • Keep your bio short, focused, and professional
  • Include your contact info: email, phone, DM options
  • Add a clear About Me section with:
    • Your name & location
    • Training background
    • Artistic influences
    • What you specialize in

The Importance of Facebook Instagram & TikTok

These aren’t optional—it’s where most clients and tattoo shops will see your work first. Treat your grid like a digital gallery:

  • Only post clean, healed and fresh tattoos
  • Use clear captions
  • Keep your feed cohesive
  • Add a link to your full portfolio in bio

At Baker Tattoo Supply, we’re more than just suppliers—we’re partners in your growth. Whether you're stocking up for your first apprenticeship or refreshing your kit as a pro, we have what you need to succeed. Start with your portfolio, and build from there.

Your tattoo journey begins with a single page.
